The question has been asked in the forums: Why can’t I have sex whenever I want to?
My reply is that you can so long as you are willing to pay the consequences.
Let me explain a little….
The Bible is very positive about sex and sexuality. The first command given by God to humans included the phrase, 'Be fruitful and multiply'. (Genesis 1:22) Now that can’t happen unless a man and a women get together! More than once! The whole Bible book titled Song of Songs, is about the romantic interaction between a man and woman, and there are lots of other times the Bible discusses sex.
As you would expect, God does place limitations on the when and where. It is important to understand that these boundaries are not for his benefit. They are for ours. Here's some examples..
Because he wants to protect the weak he declares that we shouldn’t have sex with children.
Because he wants to protect the vulnerable he declares that we shouldn’t force sex on anyone.
Because he knows that we need children to maintain populations levels he declares that we shouldn’t have sex with our own gender.
Because he wants us to remain healthy he declares that we shouldn’t have sex with a whole lot of different people.
Because he wants us to enjoy security in our relationships he declares that sex should be within the declared commitment of marriage.
God’s rules are always for our benefit and protection. In fact he is so determined to care for and protect people such as the ones I’ve mentioned above, that he has set in place some harsh punishments for the abuse of these rules. Sickness, imprisonment and even death will surely come sooner or later to anyone who callously abuses others for their own satisfaction.
Within marriage though, God encourages lots of sex. He created it after all.
How much sex do you want? Get married at 20 years, live to 70 years, and enjoy lots of sex! Having sex with your spouse even once a day for those 50 years will let you enjoy more than 18,000 encounters. I dare suggest that even you will be wanting a break sooner or later before you get that far!
