I woke up in the middle of last night with a strange question running through my mind...
What is the cruelest thing that God could do?
Even more strange was the answer which was also in my mind…
Force a person who doesn’t want to, to live in Heaven with God.
But you know this really makes sense when you think about it.
If someone is simply not interested in purity, holiness, and so on today, why should they be interested tomorrow? If someone doesn’t want to honour God today, why should they want to tomorrow? If someone doesn’t want to build any relationship with God while on this planet, why should they want to after death?
Lots of folks claim that a God of love wouldn’t send anyone to Hell after they die. But consider the dilemma God has here. After physical death, we will have to either live in God’s presence, or out of it. For God to force an unwilling someone to live in his presence for ever would surely be the most extreme cruelty.
Yes, Hell is a terrible place. But we make the choice, not God. All he does is ratify our choice. We can’t ask for more than that can we?
Mmmm…
If you are not interested in God stuff now, but don’t want to go to Hell, maybe you’d better start changing huh?
