Just reading a daily devotional about the crucifixion and how Jesus became sin and was separated from God. When and how did Jesus become one with God.
Hi there.
Jesus and God were never not one (sorry for the bad grammar here!). In John 10:30 Jesus said, "I and the Father are one." And the same sort of thing is mentioned in a number of places in the Bible.
I have to say that there is considerable mystery about the separation that occurred between Jesus and God that I do not understand. I think that the cost of our sin upon Jesus was far more than we will ever grasp.
But for me, it helps me to understand this separation a little by using this illustration...
My wife and I have a number of children. They have the potential to go completely off the rails at any time. They may choose to become drug addicts, or criminals, or whatever.
If they did behave like this, they would likely end up in prison, which would enforce a separation between them and us. We could not visit them anytime we wanted. We could not take them on holiday with us. We could not have birthday parties together. So we would be pretty much separated.
BUT.... they would still be our children. Nothing can take away our blood relationship.
I see the cross work of Jesus like that. When he took my sin, your sin, and the sin of everyone else, the cost of that was relational separation from God. He did not lose his God nature however. It remained through the whole death, burial and resurrection process.
Hope this helps.
Lord bless
